About
The invention of the modern process for synthesizing ammonia (NH3), known as the Haber-Bosch process, in 1909 profoundly changed human societies: by allowing the artificial fixation of nitrogen, it marked the entry into an era of strong growth in agricultural production and therefore of population growth. But it is now also as a vector of hydrogen that ammonia will interest us: more energy-dense than hydrogen, as easy to transport as methane, ammonia could well represent the fuel of the future.
Far from being just a vector for hydrogen, the versatility of ammonia promises a lot, provided its production is decarbonized, which is now responsible for nearly 2% of CO emissions.2. Continuing the work on hydrogen presented at the last breakfast, we will first present the various technological paths for decarbonization at Haber-Bosch; before describing the current and future uses of ammonia in a carbon-free world.
Conference organized in partnership with Mines Paris PSL.
