About:
The elimination of atmospheric carbon (EDC) will play a key role in achieving carbon neutrality, in particular making it possible to offset the residual emissions of the sectors that are the most complex to decarbonize. A “vital, but limited” role* - in addition to a massive and rapid reduction in emissions.
Among the great diversity of methods considered to generate such “negative emissions”, direct air capture (DAC) regularly attracts attention. Several technologies have been proposed to filter the CO2 present in the atmosphere, and some are in the process of technological maturation, with around twenty installations in operation around the world. These processes have undeniable advantages, in particular with regard to the permanence of storage or the resources mobilized, but are currently limited by high costs and low-carbon energy requirements.
During this Dialogue, we invite you to dive into the details of these technologies. What needs? What role for DAC in mitigating climate change, especially with respect to other carbon capture processes? What deployment scenarios are envisaged? What risks and challenges should be taken into account in their possible scale-up?
