Assessment of the European Green Deal for Climatech: part 1

Launched by Ursula von der Leyen in December 2019, just a few weeks after her appointment as head of the Commission, the Green Deal for Europe will undoubtedly remain the major work of the European mandate that is coming to an end.

This vast project, which aims to lead the European Union towards carbon neutrality by 2050, has emerged as the main compass for European political action.

Despite the crises that marked the period, the European Commission stayed the course, responding to Covid with the NextGenerationEU recovery plan and to the war in Ukraine with the Fit for 55 package. Even better, this conflict and the rise in energy prices it caused were an opportunity to give a boost with the RepowerEU plan. aimed at reducing the EU's dependence on Russian fossil fuels through the deployment of renewable energies.

At a time when European political leaders and citizens are asking the question “Green Deal: stop or again”, Philippe Copinschi's report, presented in 3 parts, of which here is the 1Er, makes it possible to take stock of the Green Deal and to draw up its prospects.
