Battery or fuel cells?
A few years ago, battery electric vehicles (BEVs) were not the preferred solution for decarbonizing the heavy-duty mobility sector, and more specifically the road freight sector, due to its many constraints. Other alternatives such as fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEV) then showed more potential.
But with the rapid improvement in energy density and the decrease in battery prices enabled by the rapid adoption of electric cars, battery electric trucks (BEts) have become much more competitive both technically and technically. So, can this technology alone decarbonize the European road freight sector? Does Hydrogen Still Have an Interest? What infrastructure would be needed for their deployment? This report, in collaboration with the Kearney Energy Transition Institute, aims to answer these questions.
